Flatweave
Rugs
Created on a loom, a flatweave rug
has no pile, making it thin enough to fit under a door.
The most common flatweave rugs are kilims and dhurries.
Hooked Rugs
Rugs may be machine or hand-hooked.
Hooked rugs generally result in a casual appearance. These
rugs are light and pliable.
Tufted Rugs
Rugs may be machine or hand-tufted.
Katie's Modern Rugs are hand-tufted or hand-looped.
This yields an exceptionally soft rug made of yarns
drawn through a heavy backing. Tufted rugs are sheared
on top, creating individual strands and a dense, plush
pile. Tufted rugs come in different gauges.
Looped Rugs
A thick, cushiony pile created
by heavy yarn or fabric strips passed through
backing from back to front, then front to back, resulting
in a loop. Some Katie's
Modern Rugs combine looped and tufted yarns, creating
a striking interplay of textures.

Knotted
Rugs
Rugs may also be hand-knotted, an intricate process
that takes a long time to complete. A skilled
worker knots each strand by hand, resulting in a
finely-made rug.
Rug Finishing
Katie's Modern Rugs can be ordered in any size you
choose, from small area rugs to large hotel rug installations.
Our rugs are backed with a coat of liquid latex that
ensures yarn ends stay put. The edges are sealed
with a large canvas border to ensure no threads will
become dislodged. A rug pad is always recommended
to extend the life of a rug.
Safe Use of Chemicals
No harsh chemicals are used in the creation of Katie's
Modern Rugs. This means that if you have children,
you do not have to worry about their safety if they
are playing on or near one of our rugs and get fibers
on their hands and possibly in their mouths. Here
is a statement from our mill regarding
safe dyes used in our rugs. |
